Consistent Pace and Dominant Division Finish Matt Cox, 43, from Lake Stevens, WA, delivered an excellent performance at the 2025 Whidbey Island 5K. Achieving a final time of 23:56 with an overall pace of 7:43 min/mile, he secured the top spot in the M40-44 division. Throughout the race, he maintained a strong and consistent pace, particularly excelling in the final mile with a split time of 7:05, which noticeably improved from his second split of 8:13. Matt consistently placed well in his division, showcasing his capability in the M40-44 group. Analyzing the splits further, his initial mile was completed in a steady 7:54, and his adaptability was evident as he confidently tackled each segment, finishing 6th overall and 5th among male participants. For future races, focusing more on even pacing between the first two miles could prove advantageous in maintaining energy levels, allowing for a consistently strong finish like in this event.
