Date: Sept. 21, 2025 Participant: James Hestand #135 Race: 2025 Pikes Peak Marathon Marathon Distance: 26.2 miles Weather: Nice running temperatures. A large snow/hail/rain storm in the late afternoon. Overall it was a great day for a trail run.

Division Podium, Top 3% Overall with Strong Descent Time 4:54:11 for 26.29 miles (11:11 pace). Overall 24 of 918; O30-34 division 3rd. Summit at mile 13.36 in 3:07:35 (14,062 ft). Position gains: 49 at start to 38 at Barr Camp, 35 at A-Frame, 27 at summit, 24 at finish. Early descent briefly moved to 8th overall at 13.886. Up from 58th overall in 2024. Climb metrics: Ruxton 3:16 (7:37 pace), Hydro Street 10:26; Barr Camp 1:28:53; A-Frame 2:14:25; above-tree-line splits slowed to 15:14 to 19:55 pace. Descent 1:46:36 (avg 8:15 per mile) with fast late segments: 6:36, 7:37, 6:59. For next time, refine efficiency from A-Frame to summit for steadier pacing, and smooth the middle-descent variability (9:25 to 11:51 between miles 17.95 and 18.81) to convert early downhill momentum into sustained gains.
