Date: Sept. 21, 2025 Participant: Matias Saari #139 Race: 2025 Pikes Peak Marathon Marathon Distance: 26.2 miles Weather: Nice running temperatures. A large snow/hail/rain storm in the late afternoon. Overall it was a great day for a trail run.

Masters Win, Top-20 Overall, Descent-Fueled Finish 4:46:20 for 26.29 miles (10:53 pace). Climbed from 6303 ft to 14063 ft by mile 13.36, gaining 7759 ft. Progressed from 51st at the start to 26th by Ruxton, 21st at the summit; finished 19th of 918 and 17th gender. Masters standing: 3rd at the summit, 2nd by Bottomless Pit return, 1st from Barr Camp return to the finish. Above tree line, paces eased from 15:59 to 20:08 between 10.84 and 13.36. The return showed faster splits: 10:47 leaving the summit, then 7:57-8:18 through A-Frame and Bottomless Pit, a 1.86 mi stretch at 6:34, and a closing 0.8 mi at 5:45. Coaching note: refine the first mile off the summit to unlock sub-9 pace earlier, and aim to consolidate gains after Barr Camp return to preserve mid-descent position.
