Date: Sept. 21, 2025 Participant: Ben Sweatman #179 Race: 2025 Pikes Peak Marathon Marathon Distance: 26.2 miles Weather: Nice running temperatures. A large snow/hail/rain storm in the late afternoon. Overall it was a great day for a trail run.

Top-10 overall with a decisive summit surge and fast descent 4:34:40 for 26.29 miles (10:26/mile). Climbed from 6303 ft to 14062 ft, reaching the summit at mile 13.36 in 2:53:40; descent split 1:41:00. Moved from 58th at the start to 9th at the finish, including a push to 6th near 1.5 miles from the summit. Finished 9th of 918 and 2nd in O25-29. Downhill splits: 7:38 to A-Frame Return, 8:18 to Bottomless Pit Return, then 6:13 pace over 1.86 miles, 7:20 over 2.85 miles, 7:12 over 1.97 miles, and a 6:28 closing 0.8. Above treeline, miles 10-13 showed controlled pacing at high altitude. For next time, aim to carry that mid-descent momentum past Barr Camp Return (12:02 pace) to save additional time.
