Date: Sept. 21, 2025 Participant: Dean Abel #106 Race: 2025 Pikes Peak Marathon Marathon Distance: 26.2 miles Weather: Nice running temperatures. A large snow/hail/rain storm in the late afternoon. Overall it was a great day for a trail run.

Fourth Overall; 2:43:08 Ascent, 1:32:54 Descent 4:16:02 for 26.29 miles (9:44/mi), 4th of 918. Climbed from 6303 ft to 14063 ft, reaching the summit at mile 13.36 in 2:43:08 (12:13/mi). Position improved from 18th at the start to 4th by Barr Camp, surging to 2nd just after the turn. Above treeline, split paces from 10.84 to 13.36 were 14:21-18:40. Descent: 1:32:54 for 12.93 miles (7:11/mi) with strong segments including 1.86 miles at 5:30/mi, 2.85 miles at 6:33/mi, and a 0.80-mile finish at 5:49/mi. Coaching notes: aim for steadier effort from 12.8 to the summit (16:35-18:40) and protect momentum around Barr Camp return where 0.86 miles took 8:44 (10:09/mi). Finish maintained 4th overall and 4th gender.
