Sustained Effort with Consistent Splits Above Tree Line William Lee, age 35 from Matthews, NC, improved his performance in the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon with an elapsed time of 3:48:47, shaving 29 seconds off his previous year’s finishing time. His average pace was 17:07 per mile, an improvement from 17:09 per mile in 2024. William maintained a consistent pace with each segment, starting optimistically at Ruxton with a strong 7:59 min/mile pace. As he climbed and reached higher altitudes, William demonstrated resilience. His speed varied predictably: from a 15:46 min/mile pace at No Name Creek to 23:29 min/mile as he concluded at the summit. His placement improved in the 35-39 age division, starting strong with an 8th place at the start and finishing 38th. Continuous training at altitude is advised to enhance performance in the most elevated and demanding segments of future races.
