Impressive Climb: Steady Advancement and Strong Finish Kristen Hughes, a 36-year-old runner from Colorado Springs, demonstrated tenacity during the grueling 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon. Starting with a position of 1613 overall, Kristen quickly advanced to 814 by the Ruxton checkpoint at 0.43 miles, clocking a swift split pace of 9:38 min/mile. Her progress was steady as she improved her position to 736 at the Barr Camp checkpoint, 7.91 miles into the course, with a consistent split pace of 16:23 min/mile. As expected, the final miles above the treeline proved challenging, but Kristen maintained her strength. At the A-Frame, 10.29 miles in, she managed a 24:57 min/mile pace despite the elevation. Ultimately, she completed the course in 4:28:50, securing a place of 633 overall among 2049 participants. Notably, her consistent pacing allowed for substantial gains in her category, finishing 30th in the F35-39 division and 159th among female participants. Well-done on a determined climb!
