Consistently Strong Performance Amid Altitude Challenges Marcus Williams delivered a remarkable performance in the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent. Covering a distance of 13.36 miles with an elapsed time of 3:57:09, Marcus gained an impressive elevation of over 7,700 feet, starting at 6,303 feet and finishing at 14,061 feet. He managed a consistent pace throughout, overall maintaining an elapsed pace of 17:45 min/mile, despite facing increasingly challenging conditions above the treeline. Notably, Marcus was ranked 46th in the O35-39 division category among 2049 participants. Early on, Marcus displayed significant pace, highlighted by a standout 8:00 min/mile split between the start and Ruxton, positioning him well within 251st overall. His pace decelerated naturally with elevation gain, reaching a 27:31 min/mile pace at the gruelling final mile. Maintaining composure amid decreasing oxygen levels was key. Continuing to focus on pacing strategies suited for steep elevations and high altitudes will build on this remarkable performance.
