Steady Progression Despite Altitude Challenges Evie Schmitz, aged 24 from Quinter, Kansas, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon with an elapsed time of 5:44:45. Her average pace was 25:48 minutes per mile over a distance of 13.36 miles. She finished 1346th overall out of 2049 participants, and positioned 465th among females and 29th in her F20-24 age division. Notably, her time increased compared to her previous participation in 2024, where she completed the race in 5:11:24, placing 975th overall with a pace of 23:18 min/mile. Throughout the race, Evie demonstrated a strategic and consistent approach. Her initial split from the start to Ruxton marked the fastest pace at 9:43 min/mile. As the race progressed and elevation increased, her pace understandably adjusted, particularly in the final three miles above the tree line, where she maintained her momentum with paces around 41:01 to 43:57 min/mile. Maintaining focus on climbing efficiency at higher altitudes could present opportunities for performance gains in future events.
