Improved Performance and Steady Climb David Ottoes demonstrated remarkable improvement at the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent, shaving off 17 minutes and 16 seconds from his previous year's time. He completed the half marathon with an elapsed time of 5:21:31, maintaining an average pace of 24:03 min/mile while tackling 13.36 miles. Compared to the 2024 race, where he recorded a pace of 25:21 min/mile, David's efforts resulted in a consistent and focused climb, moving from 43rd to 40th place in his age division, O60-64. His pacing showed strategic variations with highlights such as maintaining a brisk 15:55 min/mile pace on the 1.86-mile stretch to Barr Camp and managing a challenging 34:32 min/mile pace during the final half-mile stretch to the summit. Despite fatigue and changing altitudes, his climactic finish at 14,061 feet showcased his ability to endure and adapt. Prioritize endurance training for the steep final miles to continue enhancing uphill performance.
