Steady Performance with High Altitude Challenges Joel Ulmer, age 45 from Colorado Springs, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent with an elapsed time of 4:18:08 over a distance of 13.36 miles, resulting in an overall pace of 19:19 min/mile. Joel steadily improved his position from the Start at 99th in the O45-49 division to achieving 44th by the Finish, indicating a consistent and strong performance throughout the event. Joel’s initial splits reflected a quick start, particularly from Ruxton to Hydro Street, where he maintained paces of 8:44 and 10:47 min/mile respectively. As the elevation increased, so did the time per mile, with the most significant slowdowns occurring in the final miles above the tree line, including between "A-Frame" and the "Finish". Despite the increasing challenges, Joel maintained commendable pacing through the high-altitude sections, particularly from "2.5 Miles To Go" where his pace was 25:06 min/mile, demonstrating significant endurance and tenacity. Optimize training to maintain pace symmetry in high-altitude segments.
