Improved Performance at High Altitude Rylan Salsberry, 19, from Parker, CO, participated in the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon. Rylan completed the 13.36-mile race with an elapsed time of 3:04:04, improving from their previous year's time of 3:08:17. Their average pace was 13:46 min/mile, better than the 14:05 min/mile in 2024. Consistency was evident in Division O16-19, securing 3rd place both times. The race day showcased robust pacing, particularly in the initial split from start to "Ruxton," with a remarkable 6:13 min/mile pace. The final stretch above the tree line revealed the expected challenges of altitude. There was a noticeable slowdown at "2 Miles To Go" with a split pace of 19:27, but Rylan demonstrated resilience, finishing the race with a split pace of 16:52. This performance highlights a promising upward trajectory. Continuing to refine pacing in the elevation segments could yield further progress.
