Remarkable Tenacity in High Altitude Ascent Octavio Armas, age 65, from La Mesa, CA, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent with an elapsed time of 5:18:06 over a challenging 13.36 miles, reflecting an average pace of 23:48 min/mile. Notably, he maintained a steady position in his age division of 65-69, finishing 22nd out of 2049 total participants. As expected, the ascent to elevations over 14,000 feet led to increased pace times in the final miles. His performance showed resilience, with significant effort endured in the latter half of the race. Particularly between "A-Frame" at 11,933 feet and "Finish" at 14,061 feet, the split pace decreased from 30:45 to 38:14 min/mile, respectively. Improvements could be attainable in the initial splits, where pace fluctuated, notably at "Ruxton" and "Hydro Street.” All in all, Octavio demonstrated strong endurance and adaptability at altitudinous levels, setting a respectable benchmark for future races.
