Remarkable Improvement with Strategic Consistency Gerry Simon, age 65 from Woodland Park, CO, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent in 4:52:48, trimming nearly 35 minutes off his previous year's time. His pace improved from 24:31 min/mile in 2024 to 21:55 min/mile. A standout performance for his age group, Gerry finished 14th in the O65-69 division among 2049 participants. Splits reveal a strategic start, with a notable 10:14 min/mile pace at Ruxton and consistency through Hydro Street and No Name Creek, despite gradually climbing elevations. Gerry maintained strong form, elevating to 829th overall at the 0.5 miles to go mark. Effective pacing within challenging final miles above 12,000 feet helped sustain his early race advantage. Encouragingly, Gerry's place moved from 835th to 913th in the last mile, indicating effective energy conservation early on. Future goals could include refining the pace in the final miles to maximize competitive standing.
