Steady Progress Under Challenging Conditions Josh Mathias completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon with an elapsed time of 5:03:43 over 13.36 miles, averaging a pace of 22:44 min/mile. He started strong, clocking an impressive 9:47 min/mile pace in the initial 0.43 miles at Ruxton. As expected, the ascent and high altitude impacted his pace as he progressed. His performance was consistent, maintaining placement within his division, ending 94th in his category (ages 40-44) out of 2049 total participants. Continuously adapting to the increasing challenge, Josh showed endurance, particularly in the latter stages. At the bottomless pit (mile 8.77), he managed a split pace of 24:29 despite the significant elevation of 10819 feet. The final mile saw significant elevation climbs, where his split pace reached 34:41. It’s commendable that amid such conditions, he improved his overall placement, moving up from 929th to 950th when nearing the finish line.
