Consistent Effort With Notable Elevation Gains Patty Sloan demonstrated a strong initial pace, covering the first 0.43 miles at a 10:44 min/mile pace. The ascent to 14,000 feet significantly impacted her splits, with increasing split paces as the elevation rose. By the 3.2-mile mark at the Top of the W's, her split pace adjusted to 21:37 min/mile, correlating with her climb to an elevation of 7,934 feet. This steady progression was maintained as she reached higher altitudes. As expected, the high-altitude conditions affected her speed. The pace fluctuated around 40 minutes/mile from the 8.77-mile mark at Bottomless Pit, as seen with split times over 40 minutes per mile during the later stages, indicating the challenge posed by the elevation gains up to 14,061 feet. Patty's overall finish in the top 25% of the F50-54 age division—51st place—reflects her perseverance and strategic pacing throughout the course.
