Steadfast Elevation Gain Results in Improved Time Matt Allen, 35, from Manitou Springs, CO, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon in 3:03:29, covering a distance of 13.36 miles with an average pace of 13:44 min/mile. This reflects an impressive improvement from his previous time of 3:18:37 in 2024, where his pace was 14:52 min/mile. Matt placed 60th overall out of 2,049 participants and 10th in his division (O35-39). The start was strong with a split pace of 6:57 for the first 0.43 miles, ranking 87th overall at Ruxton. As the race progressed, Matt managed to maintain a competitive pace despite the increasing elevation. By the time he reached Barr Camp (7.91 miles), his pace was a steady 11:33 min/mile with an overall placement of 70th. In the final stretch, amidst elevations of over 13,000 feet, he averaged around 19:51 min/mile, a challenging section where his tactical endurance was tested. Focusing on adapting strategies for high-altitude sections could garner additional gains.
