Consistent Progress on a Challenging Course Darrin Carlson, age 39 from Esko, MN, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon with an elapsed time of 4:50:44, finishing 882nd overall out of 2049 participants. He averaged a pace of 21:45 min/mile over the 13.36 miles. Beginning the race strong, Darrin climbed from 1279th to 857th place within the first 1.23 miles, displaying resilience early on. Despite the steep altitude gain, Darrin kept a consistent performance, with notable gains towards the end when he improved from 877th to 787th by the "1 Mile To Go" mark. The last few segments saw increased elapsed pace as expected due to the higher elevation nearing 14,000 feet. Between the 12.31-mile point and the finish, the pace increased to 34:04 min/mile, reflective of the considerably challenging terrain. An area for consideration could be strategizing pacing in the latter stages to perhaps maintain the improved position he achieved earlier in the race.
