Steady Ascent and Strong Finish Laurel Cole completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon with an overall time of 4:31:46, positioning her commendably at 22nd in the F45-49 division. She tackled an elevation increase from 6303 feet to 14061 feet over a distance of 13.36 miles. Starting strong, her pace at "Ruxton" was 10:12 min/mile, a key performance during the opening split. Maintaining consistency, Laurel managed a split pace of 12:33 min/mile at “Barr Camp,” showing her ability to adjust for altitude. Beyond this point, the altitude increased significantly, contributing to a slower pace of 25:34 min/mile at the “A-Frame” mark with 1.5 miles to go, where altitude reached over 13000 feet. At "Finish," she maintained focus and reached the endpoint at a pace of 28:32 min/mile, meeting the challenge posed by diminishing oxygen levels. This performance reflects her endurance; refining pacing strategies in the initial stages could enhance future efforts.
