Consistent Performance Despite Increasing Elevation Betsey Hubbard, 28, from Fort Collins, CO, completed the Pikes Peak Ascent in 5:43:56, covering a distance of 13.36 miles. She achieved an average pace of 25:44 minutes per mile. Betsey placed 54th in her division F25-29 and 463rd among female participants. The race saw a total of 2049 participants. Betsey began strong, clocking an 11:05 pace on the initial 0.43-mile segment to Ruxton. Her pace gradually slowed as she tackled the climbs, such as the challenging 0.86-mile stretch to Bottomless Pit at a 44:41 pace. A noticeable slow down occurred in the last few miles above the tree line, with her final mile at a 39:18 pace. Elevation gain affected her performance, yet she maintained a commendable effort to finish out her division in good standing. Focusing on pacing and tackling high-altitude challenges may benefit future attempts at similar events.
