Steady Climb with Strong Start and Descent in Rankings Ted Marr, age 32 from Colorado Springs, demonstrated a strong start at the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon, maintaining an initial pace of 9:09 min/mile at the Ruxton split. As the elevation rose, Ted's pace incrementally adjusted, reflecting the demands of the course. By the Bottomless Pit (mile 8.77), his pace was 23:36 min/mile, having climbed to over 10,800 feet. The final 3 miles of the race, beyond the tree line, saw Ted's pace extend to 34:19 min/mile, with his overall placement shifting from 573 at the start to 964 at the finish. Despite this, he maintained a consistent effort throughout. There is a noticeable opportunity in managing pacing from the halfway point and beyond, where splits above 23 min/mile began to accumulate. This suggests a focus on hill training could provide dividends in future high-altitude races.
