Steady Progress and Consistent Performance in High Altitude Ascent Kathy Powell completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent with an overall time of 5:28:11, maintaining a pace of 24:33 min/mile across 13.36 miles. Notably, she placed 18th in the F55-59 division, out of a total of 2049 participants. Her strongest segment came early on, reaching Ruxton at a swift pace of 11:38 min/mile, though the elevation gain caused a predictable reduction in pace as the race progressed. As the terrain elevated, Powell displayed a consistent ability to handle the more demanding sections, stabilizing her performance despite the increased altitude. In particular, her transition from Barr Camp (elevation 10250 feet) to Bottomless Pit (10819 feet) was tactically managed in 36:23, despite challenging conditions. Although the final stretch above 12000 feet naturally stretched her splits, her determination ensured a solid finish above 14000 feet. As she continues to compete, analyzing early race strategies could further enhance her endurance in future ascents.
