Strong Finish Amidst High Altitude Challenges Courtney Kiang completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent in an impressive time of 4:11:13. From Littleton, Colorado, Courtney started strong, advancing from 1531st place at the start to 469th overall at the finish line. Noteworthy is her consistent improvement in placement throughout the race, clawing her way up in a competitive field of 2049 participants. Initially, Courtney maintained a steady pace, with her fastest split coming early between the start and Ruxton at a 10:02 min/mile. As the race progressed and elevation increased, her pace naturally slowed, with the most challenging section appearing in the final stretch from A-Frame to the finish. Here, her pace reached 26:02 min/mile over 0.5257 miles at an altitude of over 14000 feet. Consider this focus for future races: examining pacing strategies during the steepest inclines could yield improved efficiency and energy management in those crucial final miles.
