Strong Performance Boost Fernando Romero, age 55 from Denver, achieved an impressive time of 4:32:13 in the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon, significantly improving his previous race time by 44:22 from the 2024 event. His overall pace of 20:22 min/mile shows a marked improvement compared to last year's 23:41 min/mile. Starting at 6303 feet, he quickly gained momentum, moving up from an initial position of 760th to 371st by the Ruxton checkpoint after the first 0.43 miles, maintaining a split pace of 8:24. Fernando showed resilience in the latter stages of the race. From the '2 Miles To Go' checkpoint onwards, he maintained positions within the top 700 despite the rising altitude. Notable consistency was observed in his pacing as he tackled the steep inclines, with a final elevation of 14,061 feet. He's transitioned smoothly into a higher performance band, and future training might focus on maintaining the pace during the final high-altitude miles.
