Consistent Performance in High Elevation David Rau, 41, from Colorado Springs, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon in 4:41:57, covering a distance of 13.36 miles with an elapsed pace of 21:06 min/mile. Starting strong with an 8:52 min/mile pace at Ruxton, David maintained a steady position, as reflected in his progress monitoring, although he did experience an overall slowdown towards the latter sections due to significant altitude gains. David showed consistency, staying within the top 800 out of 2049 participants, while finishing 79th in his division and 572nd in gender placement. Noticeable pace changes occurred at high elevation points—Bottomless Pit at 10,819 feet showing a split pace of 23:38 and, notably, at the final segment from 0.5 miles to the finish line, where the pace dropped to 33:33 min/mile. Targeting these segments for tactical adjustments could enhance performance in future high-altitude races.
