Significant Pace Improvement and Strong Finish Hull Mckinnon, age 52 from Denver, CO, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon with an elapsed time of 4:20:43, covering 13.36 miles. Hull placed 552nd overall out of 2049 participants. Their average pace was 19:30 min/mile, showing a notable improvement from the previous year's race time of 4:44:57 and pace of 21:19 min/mile. Hull's placement in the division for ages 50-54 improved to 29th, up from 31st in 2024, despite the growing overall participation. Hull began the race strong, maintaining a quick cadence at an 8:45 min/mile pace to Ruxton, before understandably slowing as the elevation increased. Notably, Hull navigated the final challenging one-mile stretch at an improved pace of 26:36 min/mile. While the altitude seemed to affect their splits, gradual improvements were seen, particularly above the tree line. Focusing on endurance at high altitudes could help further enhance performance in future races.
