Significant Improvement Noted at High Altitude John Baker, 55, from Colorado Springs, improved by over an hour from his previous year’s performance on the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent. He completed the half marathon in 5:09:51, covering 13.36 miles with an average pace of 23:11 min/mile. Notably, he placed 38th in the O55-59 division out of 1072 total participants, indicating a significant advancement from the 80th-place finish in his previous race. John maintained consistency in the first half with split paces predominantly below 30 min/mile, peaking at the Hydro Street and Barr Camp sections with split paces of 14:11 and 20:11, respectively. As the course elevation exceeded 12,000 feet, John faced challenging conditions, evident in the last 0.5 mile where his pace decelerated to 36:21 min/mile. Focusing on maintaining a steadier pace in the later stages might lead to enhanced performance in future races.
