Consistent Climb to the Peak Juana Arrieta tackled the Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon with a steady performance. Starting at an elevation of 6,303 feet, she maintained a solid 10:10 min/mile pace at Ruxton, covering the initial 0.43 miles rapidly, but faced increasing challenges as the course progressed. By the 3.2-mile mark at the Top of W's, she adjusted to a 17:18 min/mile pace, reaching 7,935 feet elevation. Notably, Juana maintained her division position around 31-35 up to this segment, revealing her persistence early in the race. Her pace slowed understandably with the increasing altitude and steeper gradients above the treeline. At 12,835 feet with 0.5 miles left, her pace was 26:49 min/mile, finishing within 4:30:19. Juana's strong start and determination throughout the race are evident in her consistent mid-field placements in her division, concluding at 32nd in the F35-39 category. Focusing on incremental pace adjustments on steep sections may further enhance her performance in future races.
