Descent in Pace, Steady Finish Gavin Kelly embarked on the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent, clocking an overall time of 4:31:09 for the 13.36-mile climb. Despite the challenging elevation from 6303 to 14061 feet, Gavin maintained an average pace of 20:17 min/mile. Starting with an impressive 9:27 min/mile pace at Ruxton, Gavin gradually adjusted as the elevation and course demands increased. Notably, he managed a consistent pace through to the well-known Top of W's checkpoint, ranking 33rd in his division. As the elevation surpassed the tree line, Gavin's pace adjusted accordingly, peaking at a slower 30:51 min/mile during the 1.5 Miles To Go segment. His ability to regain a more stable pace in the final mile, completing it in 27:54 min/mile, highlights his tenacity. Placing 37th in his division indicates potential for improvement, particularly in the segments between Barr Camp and the A-Frame. Continuing to focus on maintaining pace during these elevated sections could yield even stronger results in future races.
