Consistent Pace in High Altitude Challenges Alec Fox completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon with an elapsed time of 5:52:34, maintaining an average pace of 26:23 min/mile. Ascent highlights include an initial rapid pace of 9:57 min/mile at Ruxton, before settling into a steadier pace as elevation increased, finishing 1387th overall out of 2049 participants. Alec's performance demonstrated consistency, climbing from an initial position of 1676th into the 800-900 range by mid-race at various checkpoints like Barr Camp and Bottomless Pit. Alec experienced notable fluctuations in split pace as the elevation increased, reaching substantial delays after 12000 feet, particularly from the "Bottomless Pit" segment onwards. Finishing within the top two-thirds in the highly competitive 30-34 age group, Alec could focus on maintaining pace consistency throughout the entire race. By analyzing sector paces from earlier segments, there's potential to smooth pace transitions and maintain stamina over challenging terrains in future events.
