Consistent Effort Under Challenging Conditions Jim Goebel, competing in the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent, completed the 13.36-mile course in 4:48:16, with an average pace of 21:34 minutes per mile. Notably, he faced an elevation gain from 6303 feet to 14061 feet. His initial pace at the Ruxton point was 8:50, hinting at a strong start. As anticipated, the last three miles, which are above the tree line and higher in elevation, saw a significant slow down with paces over 30 minutes per mile. Compared to his prior performance in 2024, Jim experienced some increase in elapsed time by 35 minutes and 39 seconds. Reviewing his splits, a steady decline in pace was evident after reaching Barr Camp at 10250 feet, with the ascent to the section known as "2 Miles To Go" taking 21:27. Continued training for high-altitude conditions could enhance performance in future events. His final placement was 851st overall out of 2049 participants.
