Remarkable Pace Improvement on Pikes Peak Ascent Sam Sena, 18, from Colorado Springs, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon with an elapsed time of 3:44:11. This resulted in an impressive pace improvement to 16:46 min/mile, bettering their 2024 performance of 18:32 min/mile. Noteworthy is their progression during the race, particularly from the "Bottomless Pit" to "1.5 Miles To Go," where their place overall climbed from 350 to 119, showcasing an ability to manage the grueling uphill battle effectively. Starting strong with a swift pace of 8:47 by the first split at "Ruxton," Sam demonstrated stamina, maintaining consistency in the mid-section between "Top of W's" and "Barr Camp." However, the final challenging segment from "A-Frame" to "Finish" saw a significant increase in split paces up to 22:08 min/mile. While this is expected at high altitudes, working on altitude-specific training could help optimize pacing strategy in future races.
