Steady Ascent with Strategic Pacing Marisa Asplund tackled the Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon with an overall finish time of 3:21:20. She maintained an average pace of 15:04 min/mile, showcasing determination and perseverance navigating the 13.36-mile distance up to an elevation of 14,061 feet. Marisa achieved an impressive 2nd place in her division (F45-49) out of numerous participants, highlighting her strong performance in her age group. Her pace on flatter sections such as the start to Ruxton was brisk at 7:36 min/mile. The more demanding sections above 10,000 feet saw a measured adjustment, with the split pace timing in at 16:57 min/mile from Bottomless Pit to A-Frame. The final climb tested endurance, with the last stretch to the finish averaging a pace of 21:05 min/mile. Focusing on maintaining the cadence and minimizing pace variability in uphill segments could bring further enhancement to Marisa’s already commendable performance.
