Substantial Improvement in Challenging Terrain Matthew Hjersman Everson completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent with an elapsed time of 4:40:30, marking notable progress from his previous time of 5:01:47 in 2024. He improved his overall placement from 897th to 771st out of 2049 participants, moving up to 560th in the open category and 92nd in the 35-39 division. His overall pace also quickened to 20:59 min/mile, down from 22:35 min/mile the previous year. In terms of splits, Matthew showcased strong pacing through various difficult sections. Notably, his start was brisk, with a split pace of 9:44 min/mile at Ruxton. He tackled higher-altitude sections admirably, including a 27:05 min/mile pace in the final 0.5 miles, despite significant elevation changes. Constant improvement on the steepest parts of the course above the tree line might further enhance performance. A focus on maintaining pace through these final miles could yield even better results in future races.
