Consistent Effort Despite Altitude Challenges Jay Snow, from Saint Louis, undertook the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon in the Open division, completing the race in 5:06:31, with an overall pace of 22:56 min/mile. Jay started at an elevation of 6,303 feet, gradually ascending to 14,061 feet. An initial pace of 10:30 min/mile at Ruxton slipped as the terrain steepened and altitude increased, reaching a finishing split pace of 36:32 min/mile. Notably, Jay advanced through the ranks with substantial improvement through several intervals, most strikingly from the "2.5 Miles To Go" to "1.5 Miles To Go" sections, climbing over 400 spots. While Jay faced increased difficulty beyond the 11.41-mile mark, the early race advancement demonstrates solid endurance. Encouraging focus could be placed on maintaining momentum beyond the tree line to capitalize on early progress. Overall, finishing 95th in the O45-49 division out of 2049 participants reflects a commendable performance.
