Strong Performance at High Altitude Richard West, 62, from Tulsa, OK, delivered a notable performance at the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon with an impressive elapsed time of 3:28:41 over 13.36 miles. Richard's pace averaged 15:37 min/mile, with a commendable first place in the O60-64 division. A marked improvement from his previous year’s results, he shaved off over six minutes from his last year's time of 3:35:16. The split times reveal a strategic approach. Starting strong, he maintained a competitive pace, notably at Barr Camp (25:16 for 1.86 miles at 13:35 min/mile). Above the tree line, progressively slower splits such as “1.5 Miles To Go” (8:25 at 19:41 min/mile) indicate the altitude's increasing challenge. The final stretch to the summit showed gradual pacing adjustments, culminating in the finish where the rise in elevation to 14,061 feet affected pace to 21:00 min/mile. Fine-tuning his strategy for the final miles could enhance future performances.
