Date: Sept. 20, 2025 Participant: Lee Neuharth #728 Race: 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon Distance: 13.1 miles Weather: Chilly start. Heavy winds (tail/cross wind). Sunny at the finish.
Strong Performance on a Grueling Ascent Lee Neuharth, age 40 from Colorado Springs, demonstrated a strong and steady approach in the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon. Covering 13.36 miles with a challenging climb from 6,000 to over 14,000 feet elevation, Lee completed the race in 3:31:54 with an elapsed pace of 15:51 min/mile. Remarkably, he started at 1220th place overall and improved significantly, finishing in 169th place out of 2049 participants and 13th in his age division 40-44. The methodical adjustments and steady climbing peaked at Ruxton with an impressive 8:09 min/mile pace, showcasing an effective start strategy. Throughout the intense uphill segments, especially those above the tree line, Lee persevered skillfully despite the natural drop experienced in pace and elevation at higher altitudes. Noteworthy was the consistency seen from 7.8 Summit to Barr Camp, refining his rank from 176th to 164th overall. For future events, a focus on maintaining or slightly improving pace consistency in the final challenging miles, notably from A-Frame to the finish, could yield further advancements.
