Consistency in High Altitude Performance James Clarey's performance at the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent demonstrated resilience in challenging conditions with a finishing time of 6:20:28. His overall place was 1563 out of 2049, marking a consistent effort following his 2024 performance where he finished in 1430th place. Clarey's initial splits displayed strong momentum, starting at Ruxton with a pace of 9:44 min/mile. The steady increase in elapsed pace reflected the race's terrain, with Clarey maintaining a 20:50 min/mile pace by the 7.8 Summit split. In the race's final, grueling miles, Clarey's pace shifted significantly, peaking at 48:09 min/mile between Barr Camp and Bottomless Pit, before slightly recovering to 38:18 min/mile at the finish. Although his elapsed time increased slightly from the previous race year, Clarey’s consistency near the top and ability to push through elevation and fatigue is noteworthy. Emphasizing improvements on the last sections could enhance his overall performance in future races.
