Consistent Performance through Altitude Challenges Lauren O'Brien completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon with an elapsed time of 6:00:49. Her average pace was 27:00 min/mile over the 13.36-mile course, starting at 6303 feet and finishing at 14061 feet elevation. Despite the demanding conditions, Lauren maintained a consistent placement in her age group (F35-39), peaking at 49th place at the 1.5 Miles To Go split, and finishing 89th. Examining the splits, Lauren began the race strong with an initial pace of 11:21 min/mile at Ruxton. Her most significant time gain was made at the 7.8 Summit, with a split pace of 21:02 min/mile. Although pace slowed, averaging around 39:20 min/mile in the final stretch above the tree line, Lauren demonstrated steady endurance. It could be beneficial to focus on altitude training to better tackle the final miles where elevation peaked at 14061 feet. Overall, her strategic pacing shows potential for targeted improvements in future trail events.
