Consistent Effort with Strategic Endurance Phu Nguyen, 54 from Colorado Springs, delivered a steadfast performance at the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent with an elapsed time of 4:30:35. Covering a distance of 13.36 miles, Nguyen maintained an average pace of 20:15 min/mile. Starting strong at the base with a split pace of 9:54 for the initial 0.43 miles, he faced a significant pace drop by the challenging final stretches, clocking a 30:44 min/mile pace for the last 0.53 miles. Nguyen's strategic pacing through elevation highs is noteworthy, as seen by his improved position between 4.48 miles and 10.29 miles—from overall place 866 to 684—as the course elevation increased from 8,733 feet to 11,933 feet. A constructive focus could be implementing targeted altitude training to enhance endurance above the treeline, especially evident in the steeper final segments, where maintaining a steadier pace could further enhance his performance.
