Steady Ascent with a Determined Finish Joel Sheffield put forth a steady performance during the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent. Covering a total distance of 13.36 miles in 5:13:10, Joel managed an elapsed pace of 23:26 min/mile, claiming the 70th position in the O25-29 division. Notably, Joel began the race strong, holding the 29th place in his division right at the start. As the elevation increased to over 14,000 feet, Joel tackled the high-altitude challenge with determination. As Joel advanced, the race's higher segments displayed a natural progression in split paces, particularly after the 7.8 Summit marker at 9,461 feet. Noteworthy pacing adjustments include the segment to Bottomless Pit, clocking a 39:17 min/mile, and the final dash to the finish with a 34:55 min/mile pace. Elevation and fatigue were apparent in these final stretches. Continuous elevation adaptations could potentially be explored for efficiency. Despite these challenges, Joel crossed the finish having maintained a respectable overall position against 2049 participants.
