Doug Conquers the Ascent with Determination Doug Howell completed the Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon with a time of 6:53:06, maintaining an average pace of 30:55 min/mile over the 13.36-mile course. The course began at 6,303 feet and ascended to 14,061 feet. Despite the challenges, Doug's strategic approach allowed him to finish 32nd in his age division (65-69). His initial split times indicated strong pacing, with a remarkable 11:33 min/mile at Ruxton. His pace varied due to increasing elevation, with the climb to the finish slowing to 55:00 min/mile. However, Doug showed resilience, especially between No Name Creek and the 1 Mile To Go mark, where pacing improved from 48:48 to 41:32 min/mile. Future efforts may benefit from focusing on sustaining pace in the latter miles. Doug's performance is commendable, demonstrating both experience and endurance, especially at high altitudes.
