Steady Climb to Success Sam Lanternier, at age 28, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon with an impressive performance. The race covered a distance of 13.36 miles, starting at an elevation of 6303 feet and finishing at 14061 feet above sea level. Lanternier finished with an elapsed time of 2:51:05, maintaining an average pace of 12:48 minutes per mile. Notably, Lanternier progressed quickly from 86th place at the start to reach positions in the top 30, finishing 33rd overall among 2049 participants, 30th in the open gender category, and 8th in the 25-29 age division. Lanternier posted dynamic early splits, showing strong competitive momentum. Initially, a split pace of 6:03 at Ruxton helped solidify a position as 30th overall. Steady progression saw Sam positioned as 19th overall near the Top of W's. As expected, the pace was notably reduced in the final miles above the tree line, with the last mile paced at 19:54. Despite the challenging terrain and elevation, Sam demonstrated consistent effort throughout.
