Consistent Improvement Secures Top Division Finish Sally Gillett, 59, from Longmont, CO, ran a strategically paced race at the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent, completing the half marathon in 4:11:26 with an average pace of 18:49 min/mile. Notably, Sally's time improved from her previous year’s effort by over seven minutes, demonstrating steady progress in endurance and acclimatization to the elevation. Her consistency paid off with a strong 2nd place finish in the F55-59 division, climbing from her 3rd place position the prior year. Sally's pacing strategy showed strength in early splits, maintaining a sub-17-minute pace through the 6.05-mile mark at 9461 feet. As expected, pacing slowed above the tree line, culminating with a split pace of 28:04 in the final 0.53 miles to the 14,061-foot summit. Despite this slowdown, Sally maintained an impressive rank within her division, peaking at 1st place at the 11.8-mile marker. Continued focus on uphill speed could enhance future performances.
