Consistent Performance in High Altitude Ascent Tom Sawyer, 35, from Colorado Springs, tackled the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent, completing the half marathon in an impressive time of 4:19:38. Starting at 923rd place overall, Tom progressed effectively to finish 546th out of 2049 participants. His performance was consistent across his splits, maintaining a positive trend despite increasing elevation, which peaked at 14,061 feet. He delivered an average pace of 19:26 minutes per mile. Tom's strategic pacing is evident, particularly in the early parts of the race where his initial Ruxton split pace was 9:49, helping improve his position drastically. Although understandable, his pace understandably slowed to around 27:57 minutes per mile nearing the finish, which might suggest a potential focus area. Improving endurance in high-altitude environments could enhance performance in future races. His consistent ranking within his age group indicates well-maintained effort as he climbed through various checkpoints. Tom should be proud of his ascent achievements.
