Solid Performance Despite a Slower Pace Kathy Smith completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent half marathon in 6:16:48, covering 13.36 miles with an average pace of 28:12 min/mile. Compared to her 2024 finish of 6:06:34, where she clocked an average pace of 27:26 min/mile, there was a slight increase in her total elapsed time this year. Kathy finished 28th in her F60-64 division, similar to last year's position where she placed 21st in the same division, indicating steady participation amidst slight time differences. Her initial split at Ruxton was strong with an 11:05 min/mile pace but slowed significantly by the time she reached Bottomless Pit, recording a split pace of 42:49 min/mile. The final segment from "1 Mile To Go" also showed a slower pace at 39:16 min/mile, reflecting the increased challenge of the high-altitude sections. Focusing on maintaining a consistent pace throughout might aid her future races, especially in the altitude-challenging final miles.
