Steady Progress with Altitude Challenges Dan Scheleski, 52 from Larkspur, CO, completed the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon in an elapsed time of 5:15:21. Covering a distance of 13.36 miles, he maintained an average pace of 23:36 minutes per mile, finishing 1129th overall out of 2049 participants and 72nd in the M50-54 division. His performance demonstrated a consistent effort as he navigated significant elevation changes, starting at 6303 feet and reaching 14061 feet at the finish. Scheleski made a notable effort during the initial splits, staying within the top 800 participants and occasionally gaining ground, as seen at the "Barr Camp" checkpoint where he moved up to 725th overall. However, the taxing high-altitude sections showed an increased pace time, peaking at 39:17 minutes per mile at the "Bottomless Pit." Focusing on altitude acclimatization and pacing techniques for the steep ascent might improve performance in future events.
