Improved Performance with Strategic Pacing Matthew DeVan demonstrated notable improvement in his recent participation in the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent. Clocking an elapsed time of 3:08:46 over 13.36 miles, he achieved an average pace of 14:07 min/mile. His progress is highlighted by a 26-minute enhancement over his 3:35:06 result in the 2024 Pikes Peak Ascent. In the Open category, he attained a commendable 10th place in the age group 25-29. Matthew's race tactics displayed strategic milestones in the early phases, starting from position 318 at the start line to quickly advancing to 71st overall by the 0.5-mile mark. As elevation increased, he maintained a steadier cadence, visible in his consistent split times and positions through each marker. Extraordinary consistency was observed from "No Name Creek" to the "7.8 Summit," hinting at his pacing ability in mid-elevation climbs. Maintaining momentum for future high-altitude segments would further bolster his efficiency in similar races.
