Consistent Pacing and Dominance in Division Mario Castadena Jr showcased a strong performance at the 2025 UTHealth Houston Half Marathon & 10K, finishing with an impressive time of 1:14:27. His consistent pacing was notable, particularly maintaining an average pace of 5:41 min/mile in the Half Marathon Handcycle category. Impressively, Mario dominated his division, M25-29, by securing the 1st place position throughout the race. He fluctuated within the top 10 overall positions, demonstrating excellent strategic execution. His splits reveal strategic pacing with highlights including a fast opening mile at 4:51 min/mile and a strong mile 3 at 4:46 min/mile, propelling him to 2nd overall position at that point. The middle section of the race, specifically miles 4 through 9, saw a slight decrease in pace, averaging between 5:38 and 6:36 min/mile. Mario demonstrated a good recovery towards the end, closing with a final mile pace of 6:54 min/mile. Slight improvements could be beneficial in maintaining speed during these slower segments.
