Steady Improvement in Pace With a Strong Finish Miguel Portillo, representing the Bee Abled team, showcased consistent improvement throughout the 10K Handcycle event at the 2025 UTHealth Houston Half Marathon & 10K. Beginning with a pace of 13:58 min/mile, Miguel steadily increased his speed across the course. Notably, his split pace improved significantly from the initial 13:58 min/mile to 10:42 min/mile by the fifth mile. Overall, Miguel completed the race with an elapsed time of 1:19:13, achieving an overall pace of 12:46 min/mile. By maintaining and even surpassing mid-race placement, Miguel finished 9th in his gender category, underscoring his solid performance against 31 total participants. For future races, continuing to work on pacing strategies could help Miguel sustain the quicker paces seen in the latter half of the race. His ability to finish strong demonstrates potential for ongoing progress in subsequent events.
